Spokes come in a variety of different lengths and they need to be supplied in the correct size for a successful wheelbuild. In order for us to send you the correct length spokes, please write in your notes field complete and exact details of your hub, rim, number of spoke holes and wheel size. We can then work out the length required using our spoke calculator.
We package spokes up in bunches and label the length and/or lacing pattern on them. We usually work out lengths for 3 cross wheelbuilds where possible, but in some cases we may supply spokes for 2 cross or 4 cross builds, this will always be noted either on your spokes or on your receipt.
Plain gauge spokes are easier to manufacture and therefore a little less expensive than butted spokes. Butting makes the spoke a little thinner in the centre and this has two benefits - the spoke is lighter and also more durable. If a spoke breaks it is usually at the head, but if the spoke is thinner in the centre this transfers less load to the end of the spoke and gives them a longer lifespan. All the 26" spokes we sell are double butted and this ensures high durability.
