A unique product to help prevent rear wheels sliding forward in horizontal drop-outs. Ideal for use with our RD Hybrid Tensioners!

- Stainless steel spacers designed by Adam Read to sit in the gap between the rear wheel axle, and the end of a horizontal drop out, preventing the rear wheel from sliding forward.
- Made in the UK, and laser cut from 3mm SAE 304 Stainless steel.
- Each blocker is laser cut to fit in a 10mm horizontal dropout. They have a small taper, allowing them to compress when fitted, and grip the inside edges of the dropout to hold them in place when the wheel is fitted or removed.
- Once fitted, the solid end of the blocker sits against the closed end of the dropout, and the rear wheel axle sits against the open end of the blocker, forcing it to spread apart, and grip the drop out even more, and prevent the wheel sliding forward!
- RD Axle Blockers allow you to use a sprung or fixed tensioner like our RD Hybrid Tensioner instead of a snail cam.
- RD Axle Blockers can also be used without any tensioner at all if you choose, however we recommend some kind of fixed or sprung tensioner to keep chain tension consistent in use.

How to measure your set-up, and choose the correct RD Axle Blocker

1 - Set the chain tension normally, and leave any current tensioners or snail cams in place.
2 - Remove the hub bolt on the drive side, and measure the gap between the edge of the hub axle facing towards the BB, to the closed end of the drop out to the nearest millimetre. A caliper gauge (vernier) is really useful for this measurement!
3 - When you have your measurement, choose the blocker that is the next size down. For example, if you measure the gap to be 8.24mm, you would choose 'Blocker 8' which measures 8mm. You would choose the same blocker for any measurement under 9mm.
4 - You can use a blocker on both sides of the bike, just repeat steps 1,2 and 3, but instead, remove the non-drive side bolt.

How to fit the RD Axle Blockers

1 - Remove the wheel from the bike.
2 - Take your axle blocker, and using a screw driver or hex key small enough to slide into the hole or cut away of the blocker, slide it into the drop out, using the screw drive or hex key to gently push it until the closed end of the blocker sits fully against the end of the droput.
3 - Once in place, carefully push the blocker side ways in towards the inside of the drop out, so it sits flush with the inside face of the drop out.
4 - You can now re-fit your wheel, and the hub axle will sit against the blocker, preventing the wheel from sliding forward!
5 - You may need to re-adjust after the first ride, as the wheel may settle into the blocker when load is applied. Once settled, the wheel should not move forward any more.

How to fit the RD Axle Blockers when using an RD Hybrid Sprung Tensioner

1 - Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 as described above in 'How to fit the RD Axle Blockers'
2 - Remove the drive side snail cam from the hub. Fit a 1mm hub spacer, and re-fit the wheel to the bike. You do not need to tighten the hub bolts at this stage.
3 - With the wheel fitted to the bike, slot the RD Hybrid Tensioner onto the drive side of the hub axle.
4 - Push the wheel as far forward as you can against the drive side blocker, and tighten the hub bolt partially to hold it in place, but keep it loose enough to adjust the tensioner.
5 - Adjust the RD Hybrid Tensioner following the online instructions, and tighten the drive side hub bolt fully once adjusted.
6 - Adjust the non-drive side snail cam, so the wheel is centred, and tighten the hub bolt fully. Or, if you are not using a drive side snail cam, tighten the non-drive side hub bolt fully once the wheel is centred.
7 - You may need to re-adjust the tensioner after the first ride, as the wheel may settle into the blocker when load is applied. Once settled, the wheel should not move forward any more.

Additional Information

Please note: All RD parts feature surface imperfections, and discolouration on the edges of one side of the part. This is a by-product of the laser cut process, and in no way affects fit or function. Each part is QC checked by us to make sure tolerances are correct for its designed function. The small well on RD parts, visible as a small 'U' shaped cut in one of the edges of the part, is the start / stop point of the laser. We purposely designed this feature on all RD parts to ensure a clean start and finish during the laser cutting process. Tarty Bikes logos are laser etched in, and will vary in definition and finish depending on the part.

Such a simple yet brilliant part

The first comp bike I had, had horizontal dropouts with snail cams and with the 6mm bolt in hubs I was having constant issues with the wheel moving as I'm not exactly slender. I wish these were around then, as I would have had none of those issues. I've used these in combination with the RD tensioner, and the wheel never moved and the chain tension remained constant. Highly recommend.

I have bought a set of these for my Onza pro as I've had constant issues with chain tugs breaking, and the axle pulling forward in the stupid horizontal dropouts. They have worked perfectly with the RD tensioner. Such a simple but brilliant design... I would recommend these to anyone having these issues.
