JAF have created detailed instructions on the assembly, and use of their products, which you can find on their Assembly Instructions Page.

Please note: Over compressing the tool may cause damage to the pivots and handle. Once the tool as reached the end of it's stroke, do not compress any further, reset the tool, and repeat until the barb is full inserted. This design is intentional to prevent over insertion of the barb, and damage to the hose. Damage caused by misuse will not be covered under warranty.
