Great, but with tar.

Having used every TNN pad except for the new orange ones, these rank below the LGM, ADM, and the blue pads, without any aid from tar or rosin and on a fresh medium grind with Trialtech rims. They've got really nice bite and make a great loud noise, but they don't have as much hold as the other pads from what I've experienced. Tar makes the hold much, much better, as well as providing additional bite and puts them right up there with the other pads. I would stick to the recommended Tarty guidance of using these as a front pad, especially for those who want a pad that isn't quite on or off. I did use these on a unicycle with smooth rims for a very brief time before putting them on the bike, and they worked beautifully on the machined brake track even without tar, so they should be an amazing smooth rim pad.

Thanks for the honest review, Michael! We've found the BTM pads to be a great option for smooth rims. As a softer pad, they don't always perform their best on ground rims, but we've had good results using tar as you've mentioned, and with certain brands of rim like Hashtagg and Clean.
Would avoid on ground rim

Used with a fresh grind and absolutely no hold at all, makes front wheel moves very difficult and static hooks near impossible. Maybe this compound is better with smooth rim, would not recommend with a grind.

Hi Kieran
We're sorry you found the pads were lacking bite, that wasn't our experience during testing or in continued use by Adam Morewood, Ben or Daisy Craig, and from customers who have bought them. The type of grind is critical for getting the best out of these pads, a sharp, lite grind with a stone cutting disc will give the best performance. If advice is needed on best set up, we're always happy to help!
