Solid parts!
Posted by Jonny
Ok so this chaintool was recommended to me by Tarty to be used with the Gusset BMX tank chain. It worked flawlessly eventually. I had to modify the tool a fair bit for it to work flawlessly but now i have it'll be good for life! So yeah the actual tool is tough and solid, a nice long t handle to make pushing the pins out much easier than a conventional tool. But the part where the chain sits was slightly too narrow for the Gusset Tank chain so i had to angle grind down the backplate to allow the chain to fit in to the 3 link holder. After pushing the pin out i then realised that the pin was stuck in the recess behind the backplate as the pin was too large for to slide out so after prying out the pin i ran the angle grinder down the recess to open it up slightly and the pin slides in and out perfectly now. The final modification came from when your pushing the pin back in there is a little slot for the pin to sit on so the tool lines up to the pin perfectly and again the pin was too thick for this slot, a quick file to the sides was enough to make it just perfect. Now this could be a one off and i got a dodgy tool but i don't believe so. Anyway i still rate the chaintool as high because these modifications were very easy for me being a mechanic to quickly do. The chaintool is sturdy and easy to use and im sure it's down to the chain being a very thick chain. Normal chains for this tool wouldn't and shouldn't be an issue. If you require me to set in some detailed pictures of the slight modifications i made to the tool then just let me know! I didn't want to make the product sound bad due to my having to modify it because i truly believe it's down to the chain being too thick for the actual tool so yeah solid product and i would recommend to anyone.

Hi John - thanks for the detailed review! Sorry to hear you had those issues but we're glad you were able to overcome them with relative ease. We will look in to chain tools that can accommodate this chain without modification so that others don't have the same issue. Thanks, Flipp.
